MomsRetro Easy No Milk, No Egg, Butter Optional Biscuits for One or Two
This is a simple vegetarian, eggless, milkless biscuit recipe you can whip up in your toaster oven!
You don’t need biscuit mix and you don’t need to make a lot; just enough for one or two. Of course, you can double this recipe to make even more of Mom’s biscuit-y goodness.
Toaster Oven Tip; if you are trying this in a smaller, or toaster oven, I recommend pre-heating so there is less chance of your biscuits burning on top. You can help reduce burning on the bottom with a small double-insulated cookie sheet.
1 Cup Flour
2 TSP. Baking Powder
1/4 TSP. Salt
3 TBS. Shortening (margarine or butter or oil)
1/3 Cup Water
Use a fork or pastry cutter to mix the dry ingredients first; flour, baking powder and salt.
Add in shortening and water. If you are using butter, the pastry cutter will help you “cut in” or the cold butter into little tiny bits of flavor. Keep mixing until the dough wants to stay together in a ball.
Drop by heaping tablespoons (or forkfulls) onto an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
Makes about 6 – 8 biscuits.
Easy Eggless Biscuit Variations:
Garlic Cheese Biscuits: Add 1/2 teaspoon of Garlic Powder and 1 to 2 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese. Add a little extra color with a dash of paprika.
Note: if you use Garlic Salt you should reduce or remove the 1/2 teaspoon of salt or your biscuits may be too salty!
Rosemary Biscuits: Add 1/2 TSP. finely chopped rosemary.
Olive Oil Basil Biscuits: Just use 3 tablespoons of Olive Oil in the recipe above.
Add a 1/2 teaspoon Sweet Basil.
A 1/2 teaspoon of Powdered Garlic tastes good in this version too!
Biscuit Recipe Substitutions:
If you have milk, use 1/3 Cup Milk instead of water for a creamier taste.
Use butter or margarine instead of oil for a richer biscuit.
